Privacy Policy

How we handle research and operator information.

Plain language summary of what we collect, why we collect it, and the choices available to operators and businesses.

Who we are

Fitness Research Institute is an independent research initiative focused on Australian gyms and boutique fitness studios. Research is supported by TrialSession.com, part of our group, which is disclosed on every published report.

Information we collect

When an operator chooses to participate in research, we collect information they provide directly through our participation form. This may include business name, segment, location, contact details, and operator-provided answers about marketing, growth, and operating practices.

We also collect information from publicly available business sources, such as public business listings and public website content, to support sector-wide analysis.

How we use information

Information from operators is used to produce aggregated research findings and reports. Individual responses are kept confidential and are not published in identifiable form.

Contact details are used to confirm participation, send reports the participant has asked for, and arrange the participation thank-you. We only contact operators about research and related communications they have asked to receive.

Aggregation and confidentiality

Findings are reported in aggregated form. Where the number of responses in a segment is too small to protect confidentiality, we do not publish the figure.

We do not sell research participant information.

Third parties

TrialSession.com, part of our group, supports this research and provides the participation thank-you. Where we share contact details with TrialSession.com to fulfil the thank-you, we share only what is necessary for that purpose.

We use standard service providers for email, hosting and analytics. Those providers act under our instructions and are bound by their own contractual obligations.

Your choices

You can ask us to correct or remove information held about your business at any time by contacting privacy@fitnessresearchinstitute.org.

You can opt out of further research-related contact at any time. Opt-outs are honoured promptly.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect information held about participants and businesses, using standard security practices for hosted systems.

Updates

This policy may be updated to reflect changes in our research practices or applicable law. The current version is always available on this page.
